Kamsky's Cattery

We are registered with the South African Cat Council and we abide by the code of ethics of laid out by the Council.

At Kamsky's cattery we aim to breed beautiful healthy Maine Coons. Our kittens are born in our house and are pets first and foremost. I will stay with a queen until all her babies are born. The Mom loves to have me touch her tummy and talk her through her labour. As we are situated on a small farm that is fenced our cats are allowed the run of the house and the garden. They love climbing the trees and exploring the garden.

From Ice Land Comes A Legend

The Maine Coon is one of the largest of the domestic cats, their coats are long, heavy and silky with a large ruff and bib and above all a magnificently luxuriant tail.
In Cat World by Desmond Morris there are no less than 12 myths and legends about the origin of these gentle giants. One proposes that the first Maine Coon is a decendant of the 6 Angora cats owned by Marie Antoinette that she had sent to America when she wished to escape the French Revolution. The Queen never arrived in America as she was beheaded before she could leave. The most likely explanation is that it is the descendant of local house-cats that became semi-wild and, as a result of living in the cold forest, gradually developed a heavier body and thicker coat as natural protection against the cold.
